Ah, can you hear that? It’s the sound of SUMMERTIME! As you finish this school year, it’s time to bid farewell to those alarm clocks, your quick lunch breaks, and lesson planning. Start enjoying your summer break! A beach trip with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair will be all you think about in a few short weeks! Here are three ways to enjoy your well-deserved summer break!

#1: Unplug

You are attached to your computer for emails, lesson planning, and grading during the school year. Use this time to unplug from school-related technology. Whether reading a book, taking a walk, or enjoying a hobby outside, give yourself permission to step away for a couple of weeks this summer. Embrace all that summer has to offer!

#2: Create a Self-Care Routine

Summer is the perfect time to establish a self-care routine to reset your physical and mental health. Start by identifying activities that make you feel relaxed, rejuvenated, and happy. This could include practicing gratitude, morning meditation, exercise, or even a nice cup of hot tea or coffee. Schedule time each day to engage in these practices. It takes 21 days to create a new habit, so continue this routine into the new school year to stay recharged.

#3: Explore New Interest

You helped your students discover more about themselves and grow all year. It’s now time to do the same for yourself. Is there a skill you’ve always wanted to learn? A dream that you’ve been wanting to chase? Engage in activities outside of teaching that can help you rediscover your sense of purpose! You are a teacher, but that’s not your entire identity. Find activities that bring you joy and a sense of fulfillment.

Remember, self-care isn’t selfish. Taking care of your body, mind, and spirit is essential for maintaining your overall well-being. You want to recharge to be the best teacher version you can be in the upcoming school year. So, this summer, remember—it’s all about you and activities that nourish your physical and mental health. You’ve earned it!
